FBI agents and SWAT teams descended on multiple properties tied to Virginia State Senate President Pro Tempore L. Louise Lucas on Wednesday, May 6, including — and I cannot stress this enough — a cannabis shop linked to the longtime Democrat senator. At least three people were arrested in connection with the raids, which are part of what sources describe as a corruption probe into the most powerful Democrat in the Virginia state legislature.
A Democrat. Running a weed shop. While running the state senate. You genuinely cannot make this stuff up.
Lucas, who represents Portsmouth, Virginia, has served in the Virginia General Assembly for decades and currently holds the title of Senate President Pro Tempore — making her the highest-ranking Democrat in the Virginia State Senate. She's also been a longtime critic of President Trump, because of course she has. Nothing says "I'm totally clean and above board" like spending years screaming about Trump's ethics while the FBI is apparently building a file on your cannabis operation.
The raids were first reported by ABC affiliate 13 News Now in Virginia, with multiple sources confirming to the station that FBI agents hit several locations across the Portsmouth area. Fox News and Real America's Voice, where reporter Rick Delgado covered the story, also confirmed the scope of the operation. The FBI Norfolk Field Office and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia are handling the investigation.
Three arrests. Multiple locations. SWAT teams. This wasn't a polite knock on the door with a subpoena — this was the full FBI treatment.
Now, here's the part that makes this story even better. Lucas played a major role in Virginia's efforts to redraw congressional districts to make them more competitive for Democrats. Just last month, Virginia voters approved newly redrawn congressional maps in a referendum — maps that Lucas championed specifically to give Democrats an electoral advantage. Those maps are currently being challenged before the Virginia Supreme Court.
So let's recap: she's under FBI investigation for corruption, she was instrumental in rigging — sorry, "redrawing" — the congressional maps to help her party, she apparently has a side hustle selling weed, and she's spent the last several years lecturing the rest of us about democracy and decency.
The party of "no one is above the law" strikes again.
We don't know the full scope of the corruption allegations yet. The FBI and DOJ haven't released detailed statements about the specific charges, and Lucas herself hasn't commented publicly. But when the feds show up with SWAT teams and start arresting people at your cannabis shop, it's safe to say this isn't a parking ticket situation.
This is the same Democrat Party that spent four years telling us Trump was the corrupt one. The same party that impeached him twice, raided his home, and dragged him through courtroom after courtroom. And meanwhile, their own Senate leader in Virginia is allegedly running a corruption operation out of a dispensary.
Three people arrested. Multiple properties raided. A cannabis shop. And the highest-ranking Democrat in the Virginia State Senate at the center of all of it.
Welcome to the party of "integrity."
